What is indirect vs. direct cooking & how do I use them?

Direct cooking is when food is cooked directly over the heat source. Best for quick cooks and foods that need less than 20 minutes of cooking. Consider this method for your every day food items such as steak, burgers, chicken breasts, and smaller veggies. Direct cooking is used to create direct charring and caramelization. Indirect cooking is when food is cooked indirectly over the heat source. Best for longer cooks and foods that need longer than 25 minutes of cooking. Consider this method for your larger items such as roasts, dense vegetables, whole chickens, etc., or for delicate items that are too fragile for direct heat, such as fish and small vegetables.

TWO-ZONE unlocks the ability to cook with both direct heat and indirect heat. Cook with direct heat using the two front burners to sear your food over direct flame, for quick, hot contact. Use the back burner and top rack as a place to move your food so it’s not cooking over a direct flame, or as a space to cook smaller, more delicate food loads to avoid overcooking

When grilling steaks, do you have to run the fan?

If cooking with the lid down on any of the Ninja FlexFlame functions, our CyclonicHeat-iQ fan will automatically turn on and evenly circulate heated air around your food to provide the best cooking results. However, the fan will automatically shut off when grilling with the lid open.

Does the grill keep working even with the hood up?

When preheating, please ensure you are pre-heating with the hood down to reach the ultimate desired grilling temperature. Once the grill is fully preheated, you may open the lid to start cooking with hood up. Note: the fan will be off when cooking with the hood up. You cannot cook hood up if using the woodfire technology as the fan needs to run when using this function.

What is CyclonicHeat-iQ?

We combined electricity and propane to change the way you cook outdoors. Designed to simplify your experience, the cyclonic fan circulates superheated air around your food while the precision propane dials give you total control over your settings. And with built-in Ninja Woodfire™ Technology, you can add smoky flavor to any meal.

Can the pizza stone get wet?

If the stone gets wet, it could potentially crack. We do not recommend exposing it to water.

Why is my pizza sticking to the peel?

The pizza peel, dough, and toppings should be at room temperature. Dough is easiest to stretch and slide off the peel when at room temperature.

  • If the dough is too wet and sticky, add a generous sprinkling of flour to both it and the peel before stretching out the dough.
  • Ensure there are no holes in the dough, as the sauce can leak through and cause the pizza to stick to the peel.
  • Before adding toppings, give the peel a shake to ensure the dough moves freely. If not, pick up the dough and add more flour to the peel.
  • Do not leave the dough on the peel for a long time before cooking.
  • If the dough sticks to the peel, use a quick back-and-forth motion to release it. The pizza’s momentum will help it move forward so you can slide it off the peel onto the pizza stone.
Where should I store accessories?

All accessories besides the griddle plate (half and full), pizza stone, and pizza peel can be stored in the cabinet of the unit. Store the griddle plates, pizza stone, and pizza peel inside to avoid them getting wet form the environment.

Why can't I taste any smoky flavor?

In general, smoke flavor is more prevalent on longer cooks. The GRILL/PIZZA, 2 ZONE, and ROAST/BAKE functions are best for infusing a hint of smoky flavor.

LOW & SLOW is best for BBQ smoking classics. High cook temperatures with fast cook times less than 30 min will lead to a "kiss of smoke" or a smoke infusion where as Low cook temperatures with long cook times more than 1 hour will yield a stronger smoke flavor.

How many pellets do I need for a smoke session?

For every smoke session, fill the pellet box with 2 cups of your favorite Ninja Woodfire Wood Pellets. Each smoke session will burn for approximately 45 minutes but will remain burning for approximately 90 minutes in total.

How long do pellets take to go through the ignition process?

Once you press the Woodfire Flavor button and you see the IGN progress bar displayed on your screen, pellet ignition will take approximately 10-12 minutes.

How do I dispose of pellets after use?

Allow grill and pellet box to completely cool, then remove the pellet box and safely discard contents after each use. Use may use the ash in your garden as an excellent source of nutrients for plants. Lightly scatter on the soil, or add it to your existing compost.

When should I add more pellets?

The pellet box should always be filled to the top fill tab prior to starting your cook with woodfire flavor. However, if you desire extra smoky flavor, follow the below steps to add more pellets:

If there is a still a burning ember, you may top off the pellet box with additional pellets. Do not re-ignite the pellets.

If there is no burning ember and the first batch has fully burned out, re-fill the pellet box to the fill tab. Then, press the Woodfire Flavor button to re-ignite the pellets.

Can I use the LOW & SLOW function without using Woodfire Flavor?

When using Low & Slow we recommend always adding Woodfire Flavor Technology for best results. Note: You still need to press the Woodfire Flavor button to activate woodfire flavor technology when using the Low & Slow function. You may use the Low & Slow function without woodfire technology as a warming zone for food.

I own the pellet scoop from the other outdoor products, how many of those are required for 1 cook with woodfire flavor technology?

Using the small pellet scoop, it will take around 5.5 scoops to fill the PG pellet box. Ensure the pellet box is always filled to the fill tab when starting a smoking session.

Are the Ninja Woodfire™ Robust and All-Purpose Blend pellets peanut free?

We cannot guarantee that our pellets are peanut-free as they are processed in a facility where other woods that are not allergen friendly are also produced.

What are some tips and tricks to get more smoky flavor?

Smoke flavor is most pronounced on longer cooks that last 1 hour or more. For stronger smoke flavor, it is best to put cold food onto the grill which helps with smoke adhesion. It is also best to avoid using oils which can keep the smoke from sticking to the food, and to limit peeking to ensure that the smoke is fully circulating inside the grill. For shorter cooks, it is best practice to allow pellets to fully ignite and begin smoking before placing your food onto the grill to get the most smoky flavor.

How often do I need to refill the pellet box?

When to add more pellets for extra smoky flavor:

  1. Top off pellets if there is still a burning ember (DO NOT re-ignite pellets)
  2. If the first batch has fully burned & there is no longer a burning ember, refill the pellet box, then press the woodfire flavor button to reignite pellets.

How should I prevent my griddle from rusting?
